Overview

The V1100 family of intelligent XMC modules brings extremely high-speed standards-based 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to real-time embedded applications running in harsh environmental conditions. The V1120, which provides host connectivity through a PCI Express® (PCIe) interface, is the first member of the product line. It offers outstanding packet processing performance together with application flexibility in a conduction-cooled package for extended temperature operation and greater shock and vibration tolerance. Designed for systems where front-panel access is undesirable or impossible, the V1120 provides up to 2 channels of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) connectivity over the standard XMC Pn6 connector, following VITA 42.6. The connector routes the signals down to the host carrier card where they can be further routed for access.

The V1120's hardware, software, and reprogrammable firmware are optimized to solve the problem of implementing a 10GbE data pipe in high-performance real-time sensor data flow applications such as signals intelligence, radar and high-speed record/playback. Its features include on-board memory to buffer up to hundreds of thousands of packets at line rate, avoiding packet loss even if the local destination for the data (e.g., host CPU bus) cannot be accessed intermittently. The V1120 uses a standard socket API to maximize software portability. Its unmatched mix of flexibility and performance significantly de-risks integration and facilitates rapid deployment.

The module can also be configured to carry out a range of packet processing or signal processing functions such as up/down conversion, aggregation, deep packet inspection, encryption/decryption, and FFT.
